Duct Tape Crafts
Just the sound of it makes me want to laugh! Here we are as a society the most technological advanced nation on the planet but yet we want to know about “duct tape crafts”. I’ll repeat, Ha,Ha,Ha.
Before we actually get into the making of any duct tape crafts we need a little back ground. Where did duct tape come from? Why is it called duct tape? And, why was it invented? Surely the inventor must be a multi-billion aire, right?

The beginning of Duck Tape
Ok the big question is “where did duct tape come from”? Duct tape came to us from World War II. Yep the big WWII. It came as a need to keep ammunition containers water tight. I wander how many lives duct tape as saved?
The next question, why is it called “duct tape”?. This has a two part answer. Lets begin with who invented duct tape. Well we can thank the Johnson & Johnson Company. The first duct tapes were made of ”cotton duck” a material in medical cloth tape. In the beginning duct tape was indeed called “duck” tape because water rolled off of it like a ducks back.
It was not until post WWII that the name duck tape was officially changed into Duct Tape. After the big war across the pond there was a boom in the housing industry. Along with this big boom came the need to better seal mechanical “ducts”. You know, heating and air conditioning ducts. So since there was not that much need from the military anymore the next biggest demand came from mechanical contractors to seal their air “ducts” so it became “duck tape”.

I remember watching episodes of the “Red Green” show with my son. The star Red Green always had a skit where he or one of the other characters repaired or made something grand with “duct tape” and it was always awesome!

Oh yea before I go on to some awesome duct tape crafts lets not forget how duct tape saved the lives of the Apollo 13 crew. Remember they used it to jerry rig the carbon dioxide filter. Some how I don’t think Scotch Tape would have had the same effect.
